Le Colimbo is a new theatre company based in Gatineau, Québec, that brought together several artists who have been collaborating on several plays in the past years.
Our Story
Most of these artists met at the UNAM-Canadá (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) theatre group, in Gatineau. Incidentally, it is within the university walls that was created the company’s first professional play: La farsa de maese Pathelin, a Spanish version of the text that is generally considered to be the first comic stage play of the French repertoire.
In 2019, we came back with Tiempo de ser, a theatrical version of the homonymous novel by Camila Reimers, an Ottawa resident of Chilean origin, winner of the International Latino Book Award (ILBA) in Los Angeles.
After a pandemic break, the company comes back in force with La violación de Lucrecia, a one-woman play adapted from the same titled poem of William Shakespeare published in 1594. The play was launched on November 26, 2021 in the theatre Cabaret La Basoche, in Gatineau, and presented again in Ottawa at Arts Court theatre to celebrate the International day of Spanish language, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in Canada.
In 2023, we went on tour in several classical and municipal festivals, in Spain, with La Violación de Lucrecia.
